You've probably deleted the app before and had it back on your phone by the weekend. Closing the account itself puts a real wall between you and the next bet. BetMGM covers sports, casino and poker, and it closes each product separately, so check that you've closed everything you use.

Menus change with almost every app update. If you can't find a setting, open support chat and type exactly what you want, like "close my account" or "self-exclude me."

How to close your BetMGM account

  1. Withdraw your balance first.
  2. Go to your account settings and look for Service Closure, then choose each product (Sports, Casino, Poker) to close.
  3. Or ask BetMGM's 24/7 live chat or your state's support email to close it for you.

Closing one product doesn't close the others. Self-exclusion is the stronger option.

Closing vs. self-excluding from BetMGM

Closing an account is usually easy to undo. A break pauses it until a date. Self-exclusion locks you out for a set term and usually can't be lifted early. If you're quitting, pick the longest self-exclusion they offer.

One sportsbook down

BetMGM is one door. Most people who bet on sports have two or three apps, plus whatever the ads push next. Closing every one of them in the same sitting matters more than how fast you close the first.

Take a break from BetMGM

  • Time-out: A short break from your account. Reported lengths start at 72 hours.

Self-exclude from BetMGM

  • Self-exclusion: BetMGM says self-exclusion in one state blocks you from BetMGM in every other state, and you can't cancel it once it's in place. It's reported to last at least 12 months.

BetMGM is state-licensed, so your state's self-exclusion program covers it, along with every other licensed sportsbook in your state. How state self-exclusion works, and your state guide has the sign-up steps.

Set limits on BetMGM

Deposit, time and spending limits under My Account, Settings, Responsible Gaming. BetMGM says limits and time-outs carry across states. Limits slow you down. On their own they won't stop you, so if you're quitting, pair them with a break or self-exclusion.

Cut BetMGM off from your money

  • Delete the BetMGM app and sign out on every device.
  • Install a blocker. BetBlocker is free and can be locked for up to five years. More options are in how to block sports betting apps.
  • Ask your bank whether it can block gambling transactions on your cards.
  • Stop the marketing. Go to My Account, Settings, Communication Preferences. BetMGM says this applies in every state.

Stop BetMGM VIP hosts, rewards and offers

BetMGM's rewards program is BetMGM Rewards, linked to MGM Rewards. Reviews report that its invitation-only top tier comes with a dedicated host. Closing your account reportedly doesn't remove you from MGM Rewards, so ask about that too.

To make it stop, self-exclude, then email BetMGM support asking to be removed from any VIP program, rewards, marketing and texts, and keep a copy. If you're contacted after self-excluding, save the messages and report them to your state gaming regulator. More on how VIP hosts work and how to shut them off.

What about your data?

Data deletion is a separate privacy request from closing your account.

Close the rest too

Closing BetMGM helps. The other apps are still one tap away, so shut those down too:
